A Look at the Procedure
Dr. Zavell performs chin surgery at a trusted, fully accredited surgical facility. He offers general anesthesia and IV sedation to help you stay comfortable during the procedure.
Once you are comfortable and sedated, Dr. Zavell will make small incisions in either the natural crease line under the chin or inside the mouth where the lower lip meets the chin. Using these discreet incisions, he can insert a custom-fitted implant on top of the bone. Dr. Zavell will evaluate the appearance of the implant and make adjustments as needed. Once he is completely satisfied with the results, the implant will be sutured in place. Any sutures used will dissolve over time. In total, this surgery normally takes an hour to an hour and a half to complete.

You will be given detailed recovery guidelines and a supportive garment to hold the implant in place while it heals. Dr. Zavell and our skilled team will closely monitor your recovery. You should schedule 10 days or so of down time to rest and recover.
Following surgery, it is common for patients to experience mild discomfort. You may also notice bruising and swelling near the surgical site. Any pain can be managed with over-the-counter or prescription medications. While most of the bruising and swelling should fade within seven to 10 days of the procedure, it may take several weeks for swelling to completely subside.
