A Closer Look at Your Options Saline or Silicone
Saline Implants
Saline implants consist of a silicone shell filled with a saline (saltwater) solution. These breast implants only require a small incision since they are often filled after insertion, and they can be adjusted over time. While the result of a saline implant is typically rounder and less subtle, some patients prefer their aesthetic. Saline breast implants are very safe since the body can absorb and expel the solution should they leak. Furthermore, saline options tend to be more affordable than alternative silicone gel implants.
Silicone Implants
Compared to saline breast implants, silicone implants more closely mimic the look and feel of breast tissue. They consist of a silicone shell filled with silicone gel. While they do require a slightly larger incision to place, they sit higher on the chest, feel lighter, and generally appear more natural-looking. In the small chance that your implant leaks, the silicone gel tends to remain within the pocket of breast tissue, so you do not experience complete collapse.

Breast Augmentation Recovery
Rest and Downtime
Plan to have a friend or family member drive you home and assist with your needs in the 24 to 48 hours after surgery. Get plenty of rest during this time and change your bandages according to the surgeon's instructions.
Physical Activity
Recovery times vary, with most patients returning to work within one to three weeks and vigorous exercise within six to eight weeks. While you will not be able to immediately return to your daily routine, a few minutes of walking is encouraged on the day of your breast surgery. You may return to light exercise — such as using an elliptical trainer — in one to two weeks. Many patients can resume running, jogging, or moderate group exercises after four weeks.
Managing Side Effects
Expect to feel some discomfort and soreness in the days after your surgery. You can mitigate these side effects by taking over-the-counter pain medications or a prescription from Dr. Zavell as directed.
Compression Garment
We will provide you with a surgical bra to wear after your procedure. This will help with blood circulation and provide support as your body and muscles adjust to the weight of your breast implants. We recommend wearing the garment on a daily basis for several weeks after the surgery.
Results
The results of the augmentation will be immediately noticeable. However, the final outcome will take a few months to appear as swelling and bruising recede and breast shape and position settle.
